Welcome to Nut Free Wok, a blog about Allergy Aware Asian Fare by Sharon Wong, M.Ed..

I hope that you will find my food allergy mom experiences helpful and enjoyable to read as I blog about recipes, cooking techniques, Asian ingredients, and food allergy related awareness and advocacy issues.

I was raised in the San Francisco Bay Area by my Chinese immigrant parents who usually cooked simple, healthy, home-style Cantonese food. My dad was a US Army cook during the Korean War and while I don’t know if people feel excited about Army inspired foods, it was an early form of Asian fusion and I loved it.

As a mom of two sons with food allergies, I had to adapt what I knew and my favorite recipes to become allergy friendly. You can read more about my inspiration for starting this blog.

Due to severe life threatening food allergies to peanuts and tree nuts, none of the recipes I share will intentionally contain peanuts or tree-nuts. Our family avoids many other foods due food allergies and other reasons, but I may share a few recipes with those allergens or ingredients in hopes that one day family members will outgrow their allergy or preferences.
